Prerequisites: Second year CMS students will continue into the CMS Intermediate level class. You should have these skills before starting: familiarity with all 4 strings of the student’s chosen instrument, proper bow and instrument hold, ability to read music, violins and violas should be able to use 4th finger, celli must be familiar with 4th position and basses with 2nd position, familiarity with 1/8, ¼, ½, dotted ½, and whole notes and rests and common rhythmic patterns, ability to draw a full bow, knowledge of bow distribution. Students who have completed Orchestra Expressions Book I, or equivalent training, will be at the level to excel in these classes. Entrance interview for new students.
Course Description: Intermediate Strings classes take students into the second year Intermediate Level, with the curriculum selected from Orchestra Expressions, Book Two as well as a variety of other sources, to create a solid foundation of string orchestra training and repertoire. Many selections will come from standard chamber orchestra repertoire, as students learn to watch the conductor’s beat, listen to each other for balance, intonation and cohesive ensemble playing.
PLEASE NOTE: Required Materials for Beginning Strings classes: Orchestra Expressions Book One and/or Two for chosen instrument, chosen instrument, music stand, rosin, pencil. All instructional materials and music books are provided as part of tuition.
Student must rent his/her own instrument prior to the first class. Options: Violin, Viola, Cello, Bass.
Fee: $130 (12 Weeks)+ $10 Processing fee
No refunds for withdrawal from a class beyond the first week.
